Introducing 58Miles showcase photographer Muskan Kapoor from Delhi

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in photography?

Being a management student thought out my life , I always had an eye for art, which eventually led me to explore photography. During the Covid lockdowns, I began capturing moments with my niece and found immense joy in the process. This experience ignited a passion within me, prompting me to consider turning my hobby into a full-time business. It's been a journey fueled by creativity and a newfound appreciation for the art of photography.

What inspires your photography, and how do you choose your subjects or themes?

What inspires my photography is the fleeting nature of childhood. In a world that moves so fast, it's easy to miss the small, precious moments as children grow up. I believe in capturing these moments so parents have lasting memories to cherish for a lifetime.

I find inspiration in many forms. Nature often influences my themes, from the colors of the sky to the vibrant hues of plants, trees, and butterflies. I also draw from the entertainment industry. For example, our recent Barbie-themed setup, inspired by the Barbie movie, was quite popular. These diverse sources of inspiration help me create unique and memorable photographs that resonate with families.

What has been your most memorable photography project or shoot, or any inspiring story around it, and why?

My most memorable photography project was a recent shoot with the popular celebrity Rubina Dilaik. This experience was both the most challenging and exciting of my career. The project had immense potential and required managing various aspects, from arranging their stay and food to setting up the shoot, styling, and props.

One of the biggest hurdles came when our stylist canceled at the last moment, leaving me with Rubina's entire crew at my studio and no prepared outfits. In a rush, we created outfits and sourced everything we needed from local markets. Despite the chaos and pressure, the shoot turned out beautifully. It was an incredible learning experience that taught me the importance of adaptability and creativity under pressure. In the end, all the hard work was worth it, and the results were stunning.

What is your photography kit ? or we would say, what is in your camera bag?

My photography kit includes all the essentials you’d expect from a professional photographer. I carry a Canon R5 body and a 25-70mm lens, along with an additional battery and charger, a memory card, and a UV lens for protection. For creative effects, I use a glass pyramid.

What sets my camera bag apart are the items tailored for my specific niche in maternity and newborn photography. I always have a rattle to make babies laugh and a pacifier to soothe newborns. These little tools help me capture those perfect moments, making my sessions smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

What advice would you give to photographers who are just starting out and looking to make a name for themselves?

My advice for photographers who are just starting out and looking to make a name for themselves is:

1. Choose Your Genre and Stick to It: Specializing in a particular genre helps you build expertise and a recognizable brand.
2. Stay Updated with Trends: Keep an eye on the latest trends in photography to stay relevant and offer what clients are looking for.
3. Get Inspired, Don't Copy: Use others' work as inspiration, but develop your unique ideas and style.
4. Maintain a Consistent Style: Your clients should know what to expect from you. Consistency helps build trust and a strong personal brand.
5. Define Your Own Pricing Strategy: Don’t let competition dictate your prices. Develop a pricing strategy that reflects your value and expertise.
