Introducing 58Miles showcase photograph Jayasimha Nomula from Hyderabad

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in photography?

I am Jayasimha Nomula, also known as Jimmy Nomula, from Hyderabad. I worked as a digital compositor for 10 years. During that time, one of my VFX supervisors introduced me to Magnum Photos, a renowned photo agency. Through Magnum, I was exposed to the incredible work of master photographers, which sparked my interest in street photography and documentary photography.

What inspires your photography, and how do you choose your subjects or themes?

I exposed myself to various forms of art, including photography, painting, and filmmaking, before entering the visual effects industry. For me, street photography is like a movie playing in front of me, and I respond to it instinctively. My inspiration deepened after discovering the works of master street photographers like Alex Webb, Constantine Manos, Harry Gruyaert, Saul Leiter, Gueorgui Pinkhassov, and Greg Girard. Their incredible work has profoundly influenced my approach to capturing the world around me.
When it comes to choosing themes, I love creating photo stories on a wide range of subjects, whether it's a music festival, the tale of a circus clown, or a religious festival. My approach is always cinematic, aiming to capture the essence and narrative of the moment in a visually compelling way.

What has been your most memorable photography project or shoot, or any inspiring story around it, and why?

My most memorable project is still in progress and differs significantly from my usual street photography. I'm capturing India's greatest musicians while they perform. Having watched many interviews of these musicians, I've come to value the years of practice and steadfast dedication they have devoted to their art. When they perform, they emanate a powerful energy, losing themselves to the music, to the divine, or to an unknown entity. Photographing these moments, when they are completely immersed in their art, is a truly blissful experience.

What is your photography kit ? or we would say, what is in your camera bag?

I currently use a Leica Q2 ( 28mm f/1.7 ) and a Leica SL2S with a 50mm f/1.1

What advice would you give to photographers who are just starting out and looking to make a name for themselves?

In today's world of Instagram and Facebook, where everything is quickly shared and replicated, staying true to your passion and finding a unique voice can be challenging. Seek out distinctive stories, connect deeply with your subjects, and embrace the moment to create lasting memories.

Can you share your experience and thoughts on  58miles camera backpack?

I was looking for a camera bag that didn't show off like a typical camera bag. I wanted a small backpack that could pass as a daily carry bag and still accommodate 2 camera bodies, 2 lenses, and a 16 inch MacBook. After searching through many options, the 58 Miles bag met all my requirements perfectly. I highly recommend this bag!
