Introducing 58Miles showcase photographer Abhideep Pradeep from Kerala
Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in photography?
I’m a paramedic by profession and a passionate traveller and visual storyteller. Capturing the essence of this beautiful world through my lenses is more than just a hobby—it’s a passion that drives me. I began exploring photography during my high school days, inspired by a cousin who owned a Sony hand camera. We only met once or twice a year, but each time, we’d go on photo walks through the village. Those walks opened my eyes to the power of storytelling through images. This early exposure ignited a passion that grew stronger as I got older. Once I started working, I invested in my first camera Canon EOS 700 D in 2017, and it quickly became my constant travel companion, deepening my love for travel photography.
What inspires your photography, and how do you choose your subjects or themes?
Travel is my primary source of inspiration. The beauty of exploring new destinations and capturing their essence drives my photography. When it comes to subjects or themes, it’s all about the moment. I always believe that when the universe puts you on a mind blowing frame, you do whatever it takes to get the shot ! I analyze the scene in front of me, considering the lighting, the mood, and the potential story it can tell. I try to visualize multiple frames and angles, ultimately selecting the one that best conveys the emotion or narrative I want to share.
What has been your most memorable photography project or shoot, and why?
One of my most memorable shoots was capturing a location in Kainakary, a village in Alappuzha district, Kerala. It’s a unique spot—a house nestled in the middle of a vast paddy field. The landscape changes dramatically with the seasons, and when I saw the location ,I was determined to document it in all its variations. Over the course of a year, I used my drone to capture the house in different settings: when the field was flooded to prepare the soil, when the young green shoots emerged, and finally when the crop ripened to a golden hue. It was a challenging project, requiring patience to get the perfect lighting, angles, and weather conditions. The resulting video, showcasing the transformation of the landscape, resonated widely and garnered over 40 million views on Instagram. Also I love making the tricolour of our national flag every year with India’s nature and last year it got 105 million views .
What is your photography kit? Or, what is in your camera bag?
My photography is primarily focused on aerial capturing, so my go-to gear is the DJI Air 2S drone, which allows me to get those bird’s-eye views. For more traditional photography, I use a Sony A6700 paired with several lenses: the Sigma 56mm F1.4 for portraits, the Sigma 30mm F1.4 for versatile shots, and the Sony 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses for wide and telephoto needs. Additionally, I carry a GoPro Hero 7 Black for action shots and vlogging. My bag also contains essential accessories like ND filters, a tripod, a gimbal, and extra batteries to ensure I’m always ready for the perfect shot.
What advice would you give to photographers who are just starting out and looking to make a name for themselves?
I believe that giving advice to fellow photographers can be tricky since photography is such a personal and creative endeavor. However, if I were to share one piece of wisdom, it would be this: keep clicking. The more you shoot, the more you learn. Don’t get discouraged if your early work doesn’t match your vision—every shot you take brings you closer to capturing that dream frame. Enjoy the journey, experiment fearlessly, and never stop pursuing your unique artistic voice.
