Introducing 58Miles showcase photographer Subhra Ghosh from Kolkata
Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in photography?
My journey in photography began with a deep-seated passion for capturing the beauty of nature, which I nurtured from a young age by photographing insects and butterflies using my sister's phone. In 2011, I received my first camera, a Nikon Coolpix, and further pursued my interest by completing a photography course in 2017. Since 2018, I have dedicated myself to honing my skills and exploring various facets of photography.
What inspires your photography, and how do you choose your subjects or themes?
My photography is inspired by the beauty and intricacies of everyday life, as well as the stories that objects and scenes can tell. I choose my subjects and themes based on a desire to evoke emotion and create a visual narrative. Whether capturing the elegance of a product, the artistry of food, or the dynamic nature of fashion, I focus on highlighting unique details, textures, and colors that resonate with viewers. Drawing inspiration from nature, design, and cultural elements, I aim to create compositions that are visually appealing and rich in context and meaning.

One of my most memorable photography projects was an impromptu fashion shoot I did with my cousin. The energy and vibe of that day were truly inspiring, as we embraced spontaneity and creativity in our approach. The beautiful natural lighting added a dramatic flair to the photos, enhancing the mood and bringing our vision to life. I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with her, and the experience remains a cherished reminder of the joy and excitement that photography can bring.

My photography kit includes my camera paired with prime lenses, allowing for versatility and high-quality imagery. I also carry a portable flash gun to enhance lighting in various conditions, as well as essential memory cards and spare batteries, complete with chargers, to ensure I'm always prepared for any shoot. This combination of equipment allows me to capture stunning visuals, whether in the studio or on location.

For photographers just starting out and looking to make a name for themselves, my advice is to focus on developing your unique style and voice. Experiment with different genres and techniques to discover what resonates with you. Build a strong portfolio that showcases your best work and reflects your interests. Networking is crucial, so engage with other photographers, attend workshops, and participate in online communities to learn and share experiences. Lastly, don’t be afraid to put your work out there; consistency in sharing your photography will help you gain visibility and attract potential clients. Always stay curious and keep honing your craft and keep creating magic folks!
